Bloodborne Pathogens & Infection Control

Course Description
This self-paced course is for healthcare workers with occupational exposure to blood or other potentially infectious materials, including DME/HME and respiratory technicians who work in patient homes, pharmacists and technicians who give immunizations, clinic staff, and warehouse staff who handle returned equipment. It also covers general infection control practices for all healthcare staff.
The course addresses every training content element in the OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Standard (29 CFR 1910.1030(g)(2)(vii)), plus CDC standard precautions, hand hygiene, respiratory hygiene and cough etiquette, transmission-based precautions, cleaning and disinfection of returned equipment, sharps safety and the Needlestick Safety and Prevention Act, hepatitis B vaccination, and post-exposure follow-up. California requirements under Cal/OSHA (8 CCR 5193) are noted.
Learners complete six short lessons, each with a 5-question knowledge check, and a 25-question final assessment. A score of 80% (20 of 25) is required to pass and earn a completion certificate.
This course provides the general content. Employers must supply site-specific information (the location of their Exposure Control Plan, the PPE used, and their exposure reporting procedure) and make a knowledgeable person available to answer learners’ questions.
